Green Recycled Glass 12mm

A strand of 51 size 4 (about 12 mm) Bodom Recycled Glass Beads on string 22" long. This strand is a green that has an earthy organic feel. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size and colour. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. The Bead Designer of these beads creates beautiful, very contemporary recycled glass beads.

This Geometric Hexagon Pendant was designed and made for Funky Frog. The Hexagon is about 55 mm (including loop) The artisans use whatever scrap metal they can get their hands on form old taps to pipes to .. but they call it 'brass'. Did you know the hexagon is the most efficient, least wasteful shape found in nature. ... The compressive characteristics of the shape allow it to be one of the strongest structures in the world.The cells of a beehive honeycomb are hexagonal. Cool. $5/hexagon pendant

Brass Strawberry Pendant

During a Bead Hunt Funky Frog made a big order from the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. These Strawberry pendants were made especially for Funky Frog . The Strawberry is 41 mm including loop. It was fun to read that "the strawberry is a symbol for Venus, the Goddess of Love, because of its heart shapes and red color. ... and that to symbolize perfection and righteousness, medieval stone masons carved strawberry designs on altars and around the tops of pillars in churches and cathedrals." The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! It is said that "while the symbolism associated with pears and pear trees varies slightly from culture to culture, in some form, it invariably stands for life and longevity." The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!!
