During a Bead Hunt Funky Frog made a big order from the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. These Pear Charms were made especially for Funky Frog . The Pear is 24 mm including loop. It is said that "while the symbolism associated with pears and pear trees varies slightly from culture to culture, in some form, it invariably stands for life and longevity." The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! These Pineapple pendants were made especially for Funky Frog by the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. The Pineapple is 49 mm including loop. It is said spiritually the Pineapple symbolizes the hospitality of families, true friendship, diplomacy and openhandedness. And apparently the sound of the Chinese word for pineapple is close to the sound of “good luck coming your way,” so the pineapple has become a popular traditional feng shui symbol of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. It was fun to read that "the strawberry is a symbol for Venus, the Goddess of Love, because of its heart shapes and red color. ... and that to symbolize perfection and righteousness, medieval stone masons carved strawberry designs on altars and around the tops of pillars in churches and cathedrals." There is a small village, Kokofrom just outside Kumasi, Ghana where there are Artisans who make lost wax brass beads in the same way as their ancestors. This Geometric Hexagon Pendant was designed and made for Funky Frog. The Hexagon is about 55 mm (including loop) The artisans use whatever scrap metal they can get their hands on form old taps to pipes to .. but they call it 'brass'. Did you know the hexagon is the most efficient, least wasteful shape found in nature. ... A strand of 51 size 4 (about 12 mm) Bodom Recycled Glass Beads on string 22" long. This strand is a green that has an earthy organic feel. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size and colour. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. The Bead Designer of these beads creates beautiful, very contemporary recycled glass beads. -
