These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory, TK Beads in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads, Ghana's answer to Fimo Beads! The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors. Each coin shaped bead is approx. 11x22 mm. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size and shape. You will receive one of the strands in the image. This Geometric Hexagon Pendant was designed and made for Funky Frog. The Hexagon is about 55 mm (including loop) The artisans use whatever scrap metal they can get their hands on form old taps to pipes to .. but they call it 'brass'. Did you know the hexagon is the most efficient, least wasteful shape found in nature. ... These Pineapple pendants were made especially for Funky Frog by the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. The Pineapple is 49 mm including loop. It is said spiritually the Pineapple symbolizes the hospitality of families, true friendship, diplomacy and openhandedness. And apparently the sound of the Chinese word for pineapple is close to the sound of “good luck coming your way,” so the pineapple has become a popular traditional feng shui symbol of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. During a Bead Hunt Funky Frog made a big order from the Kokofrom Cooperative outside Kumasi. These Strawberry pendants were made especially for Funky Frog . The Strawberry is 41 mm including loop. It was fun to read that "the strawberry is a symbol for Venus, the Goddess of Love, because of its heart shapes and red color. ... and that to symbolize perfection and righteousness, medieval stone masons carved strawberry designs on altars and around the tops of pillars in churches and cathedrals."
