One bracelet sized strand of about 20 hand painted Recycled Glass Beads which are strung on string. The beads are about 11x14 mm and have a tribal design with black, red, yellow and white. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. The beads are then hand painted and then refired. Strand#1 has yellow, red, white, black and one blue beads. Strand#2 has red, yellow and blue beads. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the coloured powder into molds. The design on some these beads resemble eyes and eye beads were used to ward off evil spirits and when worn would protect the wearer from harm. The bead is a bottle glass. These beads are handmade so will vary in size and colour. Each bead is about 12x14mm. You will receive a strand similar to one of the strands in the photo. This is a way for you to get a variety for your beading. If you would like a strand all the same colour please do not hesitate to contact us. And also remember for most of the strands we will be happy to break them up if you would like to have only a few. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven.
