A strand of colourful Handpainted Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 26" long. These beads vary in size, design and colour. The shape is tubular. This strand would make a fabulous necklace as is or broken up would brighten up any project. Definitely one of my favourites!! The bead is also sustainable as it is made of crushed glass bottles ground to a fine powder. Each bead is then handpainted. A little work of art!!

A strand of 6 hand painted Recycled Glass Beads. These beads are sometimes called bottle glass beads and once made are painted by hand. The design on some these beads resemble eyes and eye beads were used to ward off evil spirits and when worn would protect the wearer from harm. The bead is a bottle glass. These beads are handmade so will vary in size and colour. Each bead is about 12x14mm. You will receive a strand similar to one of the strands in the photo. This is a way for you to get a variety for your beading. If you would like a strand all the same colour please do not hesitate to contact us. And also remember for most of the strands we will be happy to break them up if you would like to have only a few. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven. Would you like to know how these beads were made???

Colourful strand of large 25 fancy Indian Glass Beads that apparently traveled all the way from India to West African Bead Market.. then brought to Canada by Funky Frog – jet set beads! However the Beads Trader told me they were from Nigeria. While research this bead i could not find any related beads except the glass beads coming from India ... if anyone know these beads please contact us! The beads are about 13x29 mm. There is a smaller version of these beads which you can check out by clicking here. They are pictured together in the last photo.

Out of stockMillefiori Trade Beads from Venice have always been coveted , both in West Africa, where they were shipped to starting as early as the late 19th century, and in Europe and North America. Many of you will know these beads as ‘love beads’ from the 60’s! Millefiori or ‘thousand flowers’ Beads are made by places slices of cane bead on a core of molten glass. Over the years these beads’ value have soared so it is no wonder other places started to make copies of these beads. India has been making beads for centuries and started making beads that look like the Venetian Trade Beads from about 1980. These beads are generally larger than the original Venetian beads with larger holes . These Indian Venetian Beads found their way to Ghana’s Bead Markets where Funky Frog found them and was captivated by their colourful and varied shapes. This strand of 20 colourful millifiori beads are about 11x18 mm. They are handmade so will vary in size, shape and colour.

A Translucent Purple Glass Bead with a tiny white flower imbedded. The bead is about 20 mm with a large hole. These glass beads were found in a Bead Market in Ghana, W. Africa but probably found its way there from India. This purple is very hard to photograph. It is definitely a soft translucent purple. Purple is a very complex colour. There are so many variations. It is said purple symbolizes magic, mystery, spirituality, the sub-conscious, creativity, dignity, royalty – and it does evoke all of these meanings more so than any other color. Further variations of purple can convey different meanings. For instance light purples are light-hearted, floral, and romantic. The dark shades are more intellectual and dignified. You either love purple or you don’t. It was the one colour most people asked for before the 2020 Bead Hunt!!
