For generations a spectacular range of brass beads and pendants have been produced across Africa including small anvil-shaped nugget charms known as “Igbo bugs” popular among the Fulani. The tradition of metalworking in Africa is very much alive. These Vintage Red Vinyl Beads are strung on string and a strand is 34″ long.The majority of the ‘heishi’ beads are about 19 mm. You will receive one of the strands of beads in the photos (the strands are very similar). These Vinyl Beads make great spacer beads. There is a band of mixed yellow and red vinyl beads which are about 14mm. The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! The downside of the new vinyl beads are they are rougher and not as smooth and silky as the older vintage vinyl beads. It is these older Vintage Vinyl Beads that are sought after and are becoming harder and more expensive to find. Also the downside to the vintage vinyl beads is some of them are friable and break very easily especially the black.Funky Frog brought back a mix of the two.
