A strand of about 26 Translucent Glass with swirled Light Blue rectangular shaped Recycled Glass Beads on string 22" long. The rectangular beads vary in size but on average are 20x9mm. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. -

A Contemporary Bodom style Yellow Glass Bead with a blue swirled teardrop inlay made to look like Old Trade Beads. These were found in the Agboblushi Market in Accra ... the trader said they were from Abijhan, Cote d'Ivoire ... they remind me of fimo beads with a soft smooth feel .. the bead is round but squashed about 13x22 mm with a large almost 3mm hole .. the beads are handcrafted so will vary quite a bit in shape, size and pattern. Wonderful airy Fish Bone Beads!! Strung on fishing wire about 41" long. Depending on the strand the beads range from 5x10mm to 11x13mm ... These delicate, light as air beads were a new discovery for me. Hidir, a Trader at the Koforidua Beads Market introduced me to them. Everything in Africa is used and reused ... even as the case is here - fish bones! These bone beads are ethereal and delicate. You can see his display in the photo ... A strand of Recycled Glass Waist beads strung on string 16" long. These are the smallest recycled glass beads and great spacer beads. These beads are a salmon red. There is an image which shows the different reds. And also an image that shows the two salmon reds. The salmon red is the lighter of the two. The waist beads are hand made and therefore there will be variations in size and colour. Funky Frog loves to use these beads in tassels! -

A strand of about 66 translucent soft grey Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 18" long. These beads are about 6mm. The beads are unpolished and natural. Photos don’t do these beads justice as they are translucent so it seems somehow the camera can’t quite catch them! They are handmade so colour, size and shape vary. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven. These small beads are the hardest to make as the smaller the bead is the easier it is to break. -

The process these metal smiths are using is the same as their ancestors... back then it was gold now it is any metal they can get their hands on!! These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven. -
A strand of 48 blue, brown and white rectangular Sandcast Beads on raffia 28" long. The beads are about 12x7 mm and are soft blue, brown and white layers with a rock like texture. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.
