A strand of Igbo Bug Brass beads interspersed with opaque bright red glass beads about 20" long strung on plastic wire. You will received a strand similar to the ones in the photos. These beads are handmade so there will be variations in the size, shape and colour of the beads. These red beads are opaque and a light bright red ... there are also strands with translucent ruby red glass beads interspersed among the igbo bug brass beads. Large Venetian Vintage Glass beads found in the Agboblushi Market in Accra, Ghana. The trader told me these beads were from northern Nigeria but I have not been able to find out anything about them. So if you have any info I would love to hear from you! The beads are a whopping 28 mm and are a beautiful wine colour. $2/bead -
12 contemporary glass Chevron Beads in black, lime with touches of red. These beads were probably made in India and traded in Ghana W. Africa. I found these beads in one of the largest beads markets, Koforidua Bead Market. Each bead is about 6 mm in diameter. These are the only beads available in this colour. You can buy strands of other colours here. -
A strand of about 66 round opaque Cherry Red Recycled Glass Beads which are strung on string 22" long. The beads are about 8 mm . The beads are all handcrafted so will vary in colour, size and shape. The strand you will received will be similar to the photo but may have variations. These beads are not completely transparent as they have a denseness that still let the light shine through. They remind me of ripe watermelon! There is a larger version of this bead here. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. A Contemporary Bodom style Yellow Glass Bead with a red swirled teardrop inlay made to look like Old Trade Beads. These were found in the Agboblushi Market in Accra ... the trader said they were from Abijhan, Cote d'Ivoire ... they remind me of fimo beads with a soft smooth feel .. the bead is round about 20x23 mm with a large almost 3mm hole .. the beads are handcrafted so will vary quite a bit in shape, size and pattern. You will receive on that looks like the beads in the photo. $5/bead -

Baltic Amber, a fossilized tree resin, has been prized and coveted for its colour and natural beauty since ancient times. Because this amber is relatively rare and therefore expensive, there have been many attempts to replace it with other natural and synthetic resins. Research by Angela Fisher (author of Africa Adorned) and others suggests that very little African "amber" is 'true' amber. Most is probably made in Europe and carved in Africa. Some may be Copal resin (young tree resin) that is formed into beads, some may be a blend of natural and manmade resins, and some may be made from phenolic plastic.
