  • A  strand of 46 black Fused Recycled Glass beads with colourful specks swirled in on string 22" long. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory, TK Beads in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. These beads are made by recycling previously used beads, Ghana's answer to Fimo Beads! The beads are melted together in a clay oven to make this beautiful mosaic of colors. Each bead is approx. 11 mm. The beads are handcrafted so will vary in size, colour and shape.    
  • Sandcast Recycled Glass Beads Sandcast Recycled Glass Beads
    A strand of 107 small Sandcast Recycled Glass Beads strung on raffia 36" long. The beads are between 5-7x7 mm and are a mix of colours; green, yellow and red. These Sandcast Beads beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a woodburning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.

  • Recycled Glass Rectangles Recycled Glass Rectangles
    A strand of about 26 Translucent Glass with swirled Light Blue  rectangular shaped Recycled Glass Beads on string 22" long. The rectangular beads vary in size but on average are 20x9mm. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles.   • A strand of about 64 soft grey seed beads that are natural and light. The beads are strung on fishing wire about 24" in length and the beads themselves are about 8mm in diameter. Please note that the length of the strand and the beads themselves vary slightly from strand to strand. These beads are seeds collected by the Zulu tribe in South Africa. Called "Imfibinga" seeds," they are also sometimes called "Job's Tears," or River Stones. The seeds come in soft natural grey colors, and they are perfect for making jewelry, decorating, and even for wearing as is (though as they are strung on fishing wire it would be good to restring them). These beads have traveled far .. first from S. Africa to Ghana and then on to Canada!

The different colours come from the different coloured powdered glass that is poured into the molds (rather than being painted on later). The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead.
