A strand of about 66 translucent soft grey Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 18" long. These beads are about 6mm. The beads are unpolished and natural. Photos don’t do these beads justice as they are translucent so it seems somehow the camera can’t quite catch them! They are handmade so colour, size and shape vary. These recycled glass beads were purchased straight from the small factory which hand crafts them using the methods of their ancestors, from crushing recycled bottles all the way to firing them in a wood burning oven. These small beads are the hardest to make as the smaller the bead is the easier it is to break. -
About 82 Opaque Grey Recycled Glass Beads strung on string 22" long. These beads are size 2 (8 mm). These beads are handmade for Funky Frog by the innovative Tet Beads so will vary in shape, colour and size within the strand. These beads have a lovely earthy look and feel. -
6 small tubular Turquoise Recycled Glass beads with brown speckles and a smooth, polished satiny finish. The bead is about 12 mm x 12 mm. These beads are handmade so there will be differences in colour and size among the beads. These beads are made by an innovative Bead Designer named Tet for Funky Frog. A strand of 6 Soft Grey tubular shaped Recycled Glass beads strung on string. The beads have a smooth polished finish and are a 9 x 20" tubular shape. These beads are designed by an innovative designer, Tet who has a cottage industry making beads by hand just outside Accra. It is always a pleasure to go and check out what he has made. A strand of 72 size about 8 mm Recycled Glass Beads on string 23" long. This strand is a smokey grey blue that has an earthy organic feel. Ghana is famous for these recycled beads made from recycled glass bottles. These recycled beads were bought directly from the small factory in Accra, Ghana where the artisans hand make the beads in the labor intensive method of their ancestors from crushing glass to baking the final product in wood ovens. The Bead Designer of these beads creates beautiful, very contemporary recycled glass beads. -
A gorgeous barrel shaped bead 21 x 28 mm with a carved design that is brushed with a brick colour... Would make a beautiful pendant! Please note that these beads were handmade so each bead varies. (so in actual fact only order five and i will put in the free one :) My affection for these beads grew when I heard that these 'Spindles' actually evolved into the beads they are today because of our avid collectioner's heart (all Beaders have one of those!) They became rare .. so some enterprising people started making new ones but more as the beads they are today... 2 bracelet sized strands of 21 tubular Sandcast Beads strung on string 10" long. The beads are 9x6 mm and are an oatmeal with a brown circle in the middle. These recycled glass beads were handcrafted in Ghana, Africa by crushing old, discarded glass, adding colorant and then pouring the powder into clay molds. The different colours come from the different coloured powdered glass that is poured into the molds (rather than being painted on later). The stem of a local plant is added, this burns away during firing, leaving a hole for stringing. The beads are fired in a wood burning earthen oven. Ghana is famous for this type of bead. There are also larger beads this same oatmeally colour as shown in the last photo.. -
